I have always had a nostalgic feeling towards vintage and old items. I cannot explain it but the idea of breathing new life into forgotten pieces makes me happy. Maybe it comes from my favorite story as a child, The Velveteen Rabbit, and what it means to love something that is old and worn out.  I love finding something beautiful and old that cannot be purchased from a big box store and owned by everyone on the block.  I love carefully wrapping it in tissue paper, taking it home and finding the perfect spot for it.
Most recently, while on vacation I came across some vintage Christmas dessert plates from a thrift shop and as I picked one up I imagined who they may have belonged to. I imagined joyful Christmas mornings, children laughing, carols filling the house and sugary treats served upon each plate.  I also wondered how they found their way upon this dusty thrift shop shelf stacked amongst other forgotten treasures.  It is then that I decide to take them home and have them as the focal piece on my table, welcoming them to festive Christmas mornings once again.  I am happy.
